Bella 10 Skiff

The Bella 10, formerly known as the 5×10 skiff, is probably the easiest way to get started in boatbuilding in the entire Devlin catalog, if not the entire world.  Originally designed to teach boatbuilding technique, the Bella is an easy building, elegant design that comes together in a fast rowing, lightweight skiff. She’s a great family project. At 52 pounds, she is easy to handle and launch. She will fit easily into a pickup truck bed; no special requirements to transport or store the Bella 10. Finally, she is our least expensive kit. Building your own boat doesn’t get any easier. Available as plans or low-cost CNC cut kits.

Read Sam’s design notes on the Bella 10.

  1. This is a sweet design! It is lightweight, and rows like a dream. My friend has built several (see photo above), and regularly uses his for exercise. It slides easily into his Ford Ranger pickup truck.

  2. I believe that you can build this for around $400, assuming you use quality materials. You could make it for less, but it wouldn’t last as long.

  3. I tried going to the Devlin Boat Store weblink, by clicking “plans” above, but I cannot seem to get the website to load. Is there an issue with the website?

  4. I would like to buy canoe plans if possible! Could you please email me a price for a fishing canoe! I will probably start by building a canoe then the pollywog then who knows! Really interested

    • Hi Christopher, This is Lee from Devlin Boat. I love the Bay Skipper design. That’s the closest design we have to a canoe. Right now those plans are on sale for $51 (usually $85). You can order them here on the website as a download to your computer. Thanks for your interest in Sam’s designs. Lee
