Oarling -- Derrick Wales
July 16, 2011
I have been working at building my Oarling over a number of years off and on, summer time only due to cold temperatures (not good for epoxy use) here in Wanaka, New Zealand. I have finally got it on the water this weekend and it rows like a dream. "Tangerine Puppet" has been a long time in the making but a satisfying result in the end.
Having a rowing background, I have modified the design with full outboard riggers and a rolling seat similar to those found in racing skiffs. It is rowed with an old pair of wooden racing sculls. I have created two rowing positions to allow for a passenger in the back, though I have yet to prove this will work. I might need to find a lighter wife. Overall it is a bit heavier than the design calls for but to floats well up in the water and moves very nicely.
Regards,
Derrick Wales
