Broadbill

BroadbillThis is the smallest of our offerings in the “SneakBox” type of hunting boats. The “Broadbill” is intended for the solo hunter, being small enough and light enough to fit into the back of a pickup or you might even consider cartopping. Its incredible low profile and small size make it an ideal candidate for hunting just offshore from the larger more established blinds in your hunting areas or you might use it as a layout type boat. In either case, a low blind setup is the best way to use her and with your favorite dog between your legs and up to a dozen high quality decoys set out, you will be amazed at how efficient she hunts. This little boat is the Holy Grail of hunting where your biggest problem will be how to raise up the ducks that sneaked up on you and are swimming in with your decoys. She accommodates up to 15 HP outboard on her stern and speeds under power can run up to 30 miles per hour. Many times I have hunted in areas where a lot of other hunters were having no luck and my biggest problem was in hitting the birds before they could land in the decoys. Ahhh…….life should be as simple as this! — Sam Devlin

The Broadbill is available as study and construction plans.

Dipper 17

The Dipper 17 was designed for the fisherman and pleasure cruiser that wants to get in and out of the weather and for the diehards that want to be out no matter what the weather. The boat is built using the WEST Epoxy System utilizing the latest technology with quality marine materials. The result is a boat with good looks, excellent performance, low maintenance, and the warmth and individuality of a custom wooden boat. All of these things make the Dipper an ideal boat for inland and coastal waters.

Honker

The Honker is a lightweight, shallow draft vessel that, with a 60 horse outboard, can race along at 30 knots or idle for hours while trolling for salmon or bottom fish. It was designed as a great sporting platform, equally at home with fishing tackle and duck decoys. With its shallow draft, it is ideal for pushing into hidden corners of the wilderness in search of fun and adventure With its rugged construction, the Honker can be easily beached for hiking, hunting, and camping. Pelicano 23

Like the Pelicano 18, the larger Pelicano 23 comes in three distinct configurations. Bassboat, Center Console, and Shrimper.

Pelicano23-3way

In every case, the Pelicano 23 offers the unique combination of real world durability mixed with the classic Devlin style. Every configuration presents a very practical boat for a wide range of needs. The Bassboat and Shrimper both feature good berth space for overnight adventures; the shrimper adds a sheltered helm for operating in harsher conditions. There is ample dry storage below the deck. The Center Console version provides open space for wrestling those big fish and hauling bulky gear.

No matter your needs in a mid-sized speedboat, the Pelicano 23 delivers a strong, durable, and versatile answer.

Cackler 14

The Cackler is a new generation hunting skiff designed for hunting in areas where seaworthiness is essential and at a time of year when great distances may need to be covered in a hurry to avoid cold nasty weather. The Cackler will carry a load in those conditions of two to three men and gear. I have been hunting in 40 plus knots of wind with four hunters, three dogs, and six dozen decoys. She performed admirably and still got up on plane. The Cackler has an ingenious outboard well that accommodates up to a 35 hp outboard. Six-gallon fuel tanks fit under the rear deck on both sides of the well. The Cackler can be enlarged to 16 or 18 easily and is an outstanding performer.

Dipper 19

Dipper19ForeAft

Above, Nick Lee rests in his Dipper 19, after a lengthy build in a commercial parking garage.

Originally designed to fit in a 20′ shipping container, the Dipper 19 is roomy inside, with a couple of other noteworthy features. The first is her use of twin 4 cycle outboards on the stern. There is no burying of the outboards in a well or trying to disguise them they are mounted proudly on the stern. Part of this plan is to allow them to be de-mounted for the container stowage, but the other part is to allow them to be as efficient as possible and allows for the increased maneuverability of the twin engines. By placing one engine in the forward and the other in reverse the boat can be turned neatly in a tight circle and if you need the other direction to come into play, then reverse the process and she will turn about the other way. With twin 10hp outboards, the fuel burn at 6 knots speed will be something less than 1 gallon of fuel per hour for an efficiency of 1 gallon of fuel burned for 7 miles of travel. At top speed, the twin 10s will offer 10 knots of speed and twin 15s would offer 12 knots of speed.

The cockpit is left open and unencumbered by seats or other appendages. The whole idea is to have a couple of comfortable folding chairs that have the space of being used in the cockpit well without restricting one into one position or another. Flexibility is really the key! With this arrangement, it leaves enough open space for the two outboards to be laid on their sides for transport.

In the cabin, there is a standup galley that has all the ingredients necessary to function and forward under the trunk cabin, there is space for a porta-potti and twin berths on both sides really a remarkable amount of room inside and out for a boat under 20ft. in length. In the evening, the port-potti could be placed in the pilothouse or cockpit and the filler used in the berth area makes a large almost queen sized bed.

Candlefish 13

The Candlefish 13 is a versatile small fishing boat. Originally designed to be a cartoppable fishing skiff for high latitude rivers and lakes, she has also proven to be an excellent yacht tender.

With one person aboard, she only draws about 4.5 inches. On an ultimate hunting trip, loaded with gear, she could carry 1323 pounds, draw 10.5 inches  and still have over 13 inches of freeboard at the lowest point of the sheer.

Under normal loading, she planes at 20+mph with an 8hp outboard. Sam recently built one of these as a tender for his beloved Josephine, and reports that he loves it.

Candlefish 16

The Candlefish 16 is a burdensome fishing skiff. Deep and seaworthy, it is wonderfully suited to life in our changeable weather and strong tides. Deep enough to keep her occupants dry and light enough to launch off the beach, she’s perfect with 10 to 30 hp.

Lockable storage and enclosed flotation augment the factor of safety and add a great deal of rigidity to her 16-foot length. She’s the boating version of a pickup truck. Strong, rugged, and versatile.

Easy to build to a workboat fit and finish, or take as much time as you want to showcase your craftsmanship. The choice is yours, but either way she makes a wonderful utility skiff.

Pelicano 18 Shrimper

The Shrimper version of the Pelicano 18 has the heart of a workboat in a modern, fast planing hull.

Sam Devlin has a reputation for designing really eye-catching “character” boats. Perish the thought, but I’ve even heard them described as “cute”. Because of that, they are often underrated for their utility, sensibility, durability and performance. The Pelicano is a really excellent example of a comfortable, practical medium-sized skiff that really looks spectacular. The Devlin Pelicano is a versatile and useful real-world design because Sam has designed three separate “flavors” on the basic fast, comfortable and rugged Pelicano hullform.

The Pelicano Shrimper is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to maximize practicality in an 18′ 4″ package. The design has a small cabin forward, with enough space for a v-berth for the occasional overnight.  The design has ample dry storage below.

The Pelicano Hull is a very fast planing design, with a rugged purpleheart keel capped with a stainless rubrail to avoid damage if you want to poke ashore. That keel also accounts for her comfortable ride, because it helps to cut the water, thus minimizing pounding.

The Pelicano has a six panel hull with two bottoms and two side panels to each side, giving an attractive hull that can be built “Devlin Tough” with her cold molded bottom, and modern Stitch and Glue construction. There is plenty of structure in her to keep this hull stiff, stable, and strong and she assembles over a mandrel of 5 athwart ships bulkheads and two longitudinals. This construction method is really quite amazing and results in a very strong and tough hull.

Like all Pelicanos, the maximum HP is 90, and you can realistically expect over 40mph with that kind of power.

And finally, the Pelicano is an easily trailerable design, adding to its basic versatility, and helping you to find your own boating adventures.

The drawing board of Sam Devlin has created another winner. The Pelicano CC is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to maximize practicality in an 18′ 4″ package. The design features ample open spaces, storage under the hinged center console, and the usual Devlin attention to detail.
