Candlefish 16

The Candlefish 16 is a burdensome fishing skiff. Deep and seaworthy, it is wonderfully suited to life in our changeable weather and strong tides. Deep enough to keep her occupants dry and light enough to launch off the beach, she’s perfect with 10 to 30 hp.

Lockable storage and enclosed flotation augment the factor of safety and add a great deal of rigidity to her 16-foot length. She’s the boating version of a pickup truck. Strong, rugged, and versatile.

Easy to build to a workboat fit and finish, or take as much time as you want to showcase your craftsmanship. The choice is yours, but either way she makes a wonderful utility skiff.

    • Thanks for letting me know. It’s a security certificate issue on our host. We had the store working yesterday, but the main site was down. Now the main site is back and the store is down. It’s not stuff that I can directly control, so I just keep nagging.

  1. Could you confirm the dimensions of the Candlefish 16. This site says 5 ft. – 9 13/16 in. Other sites say 6 ft. – 10″. When was the change made and what is the response to the wider boat?

    THANKS

  2. Hi Gill: We widened the boat after we saw several builders put on more horsepower on her than we had originally intended. This widening gave us a boat that is faster, more stable, and carries her loads even more effectively than the original narrow boat version. I love narrow and easily driven designs that don’t need much horsepower, but markets often show me that stability and speed is really more desirable and thus the design change. We are always trying to offer to our customers the designs and specs for those designs that they need in real life. regards Sam

  3. HI,
I see that the Stanley built for Chip Hanauer has a 60 HP Tiller on his Candlefish 16. I am currently building one and was wondering what modifications to the boat are need to add more HP?
    Thanks for time
